About BecomeTravelAgent.ca

Founded in 2009 by Edvin Cerimagic, BecomeTravelAgent.ca is the first school dedicated to training home-based travel agents. Edvin, the initiator of this training, has an extensive background as the founder of French training "AcademieDeVoyage.ca", a former agency owner, tour guide, speaker, and, most importantly, a senior travel agent in Quebec's travel industry.

WHERE ARE YOUR OFFICES LOCATED?

Everything operates online, allowing us to avoid unnecessary costs, inconvenience related to opening hours, and waiting times. This design simplifies your life during your studies. If you ever need assistance, you can chat with us live.

CAN I SELL TRIPS AFTER YOUR TRAINING?

That is the primary goal. However, you must obtain your Travel Agent certificate from your province (Québec, Ontario, or British Columbia). Other provinces may not require certification. Without it, you cannot sell trips.

ONCE THE SELF-PACED TRAINING IS ORDERED, HOW DO WE RECEIVE IT?

You can download the training as soon as your payment is completed and have lifetime access via your computer, tablet/iPad, and smartphone.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME A TRAVEL AGENT?

You must be at least 16 years old, have no criminal record for fraud involving money, and be a Canadian citizen or have a work permit in Canada.

WHAT IS THE JOB OF A "HOME-BASED" TRAVEL AGENT?

A home-based travel agent performs duties similar to an in-house travel agent but does so remotely, typically from home. This role offers a flexible schedule and work pace. The primary objective is to ensure client satisfaction by recommending products tailored to their tastes and requirements. It involves extensive research to stay updated on industry developments and changes. Continuous professional development is imperative post-basic training, and this ongoing training is provided at no cost. Industry wholesalers organize these sessions several times a year to introduce new products for client offerings. Training can be conducted in person at conferences or remotely through video sessions, with recordings available for review.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN "INTERNAL" AND "HOME-BASED" TRAVEL AGENT?

From an academic standpoint, there is no difference. The key distinction is that you will work from home rather than a full-time travel agency and will be compensated solely through commission, without an hourly wage.

WILL I BE ABLE TO WORK IN AN INTERNAL AGENCY?

Yes, however, it is uncommon for agencies to hire travel agents without sales experience or a background in the travel industry, especially without a potential client list, as you will be paid on an hourly wage basis. Positions in agencies are scarce, and while it is possible to work directly as a travel agent if a position opens and you are qualified, such opportunities are limited.

CAN I MEET CLIENTS AT HOME?

This depends on your province's laws. However, it is generally considered a gray area. Friends and family members can meet you at home, but it is preferable to meet in a public place to comply with the law.

DO I HAVE TO USE MY PERSONAL PHONE NUMBER OR THE TRAVEL AGENCY'S?

You must use the agency's phone number first, followed by your mobile number exclusively; no home landline numbers are accepted.

DO I RECEIVE A T4?

As a self-employed worker, you receive a T4A without source deductions (DAS), meaning you receive gross pay. At the end of the year, you must file your income tax return. Your accountant can answer any related questions. You can keep your invoices related to the course and your new job to include them in your year-end deductions and reduce your taxes.

WHAT IS THE DURATION OF THE TRAVEL AGENT COURSE?

The self-paced course can be completed at your own pace but typically lasts approximately 6 to 10 hours.

CAN I ENJOY INDUSTRY BENEFITS IF I'M NOT AFFILIATED WITH AN AGENCY BUT HAVE ONLY TAKEN THE TRAINING?

No, you cannot enjoy industry benefits without being affiliated with an agency and making reservations. You need to be active in the field to reap the benefits; otherwise, anyone could claim to be a travel advisor without it being true.

IS YOUR TRAINING RECOGNIZED?

Our training is not recognized by the Ministry of Education (MELS); it is an in-house and private training program recognized by travel agencies in Canada. For a training program to be recognized, it must include a minimum of 1,000 hours of private education, 140 hours of internships in a company, and at least one government exam.
